TEACHER CERTIFICATION

Certification in the name of Sri B.K.S. Iyengar was first implemented in South Africa in 1975 and shortly thereafter in the United Kingdom. Since that time, at Mr. Iyengar's urging, certification has extended into all countries that have a significant number of teachers following his method. In Canada, this process is supervised and administered by the Iyengar Yoga Association of Canada.

A worldwide patent, the Certification Mark, has been registered in the name of Yogacharya B.K.S. Iyengar to regulate the use of his name. It is available to certified teachers in good standing who study, teach, disseminate and promote the art, science and philosophy of yoga according to the teachings and philosophy of B.K.S. Iyengar.

Guruji requires that all teachers apply for his Certification Mark one year after they receive their Introductory Certificates. This Certification Mark is a contract with Mr. Iyengar that indicates the teacher's authenticity and dedication to teaching Mr. Iyengar's method without mixing or teaching other styles of yoga. Written permission from him is required in order to use his name.
